Day 4: Working as Unto the Lord

Reading: Ephesians 6:5-8
5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. 6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. 7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, 8 because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free.
Devotional:
Paul's instruction to slaves carries a profound principle that reaches directly into the modern workplace. The quality of our work, the sincerity of our effort, and the consistency of our conduct when no one is watching are all acts of worship. When we work with enthusiasm and integrity, we are not merely serving an employer. We are serving the Lord himself. This perspective transforms even the most routine or difficult work environment. It removes the need for recognition from those above us because our ultimate audience is God. Whatever your occupation, your work is an opportunity to reflect the character of Christ.
Do you work differently when your employer is watching than when you are alone? What does that reveal about who you are truly serving?
Choose one task at work this week that you have been doing half-heartedly. Approach it with full effort and intentionality as an act of worship to God.

I’m sitting here pondering this as I am getting ready for work this morning. I struggle with my work sometime because it’s not necessarily something I thought I would ever do or sometimes enjoy. I need to realize I’m blessed to have the job I have to provide for my family and count it as a gift from the Lord.
Thanking God for my job and viewing him as my boss helps me keep perspective when things are difficult at work. Thank yoo God for this job you have provided for me and help me to honor you in all that I do today ?
I think this applies to those of us who stay at home too. Our job in he house sometimes seems mundane and unseen but God sees it and it is a work for the Lord and for our families. God sees it when it seems even our families don’t.
