Day 1: The Foundation of Submission

Reading: Ephesians 5:21
21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Devotional:
Submission is not a word our culture celebrates. We are conditioned to protect our rights, guard our independence, and resist anything that feels like surrender. Yet Paul places mutual submission at the very heart of a healthy church. The foundation is not hierarchy or dominance but reverence for Christ. When we truly grasp who Jesus is and what he has done, yielding becomes not a defeat but a response of worship. Ask yourself today whether your relationships reflect a posture of reverence toward Christ or a posture of self-protection. True strength is found in willingness to yield.
In what area of your life is God calling you to yield control to him today?
Identify one relationship where you have been resistant. Choose one concrete act of deference toward that person this week.
I think this goes back to our conversation last night about our culture being “oppositional defiant”. It’s hard to submit when culture tells you to be who you want to be. But when we fully submit to God and His plan, things really start to look different in our own interpersonal relationships as well.
