Day 3: Filled, Led, and Yielded

Reading: Ephesians 5:15-21
15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Instructions for Christian Households
21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

Devotional:
Paul's instruction in Ephesians 5:21, that believers submit to one another out of reverence for Christ, does not arrive without context. It follows his call to walk wisely, to turn from sin, and to be filled with the Holy Spirit rather than controlled by anything else. Yielding to one another flows out of first yielding to God. A person who has not surrendered to the Holy Spirit will find submission to others nearly impossible. But the one who is genuinely filled and led by the Spirit discovers that yielding is not defeat. It is the quiet, courageous fruit of a surrendered life.

I think this goes along with my thoughts from the other day. It’s not about control it’s about letting God lead. It comes much easier when there’s submission to the Holy Spirit first.
