Day 5: Filled with the Spirit, Living with Urgency

Reading: Ephesians 5:15-21
15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Instructions for Christian Households
21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

Devotional:
Paul closes this section with a call to wisdom and urgency. These are evil days, and that means the time we have to live as people of light is not unlimited. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is not a one-time experience. It is a daily, ongoing choice to surrender control and invite the Spirit to lead. The result is a life marked by gratitude, worship, and a deep awareness of God's presence in every moment. Walking worthy of our calling is not about achieving a standard. It is about choosing, all day and every day, to be led by the One who already lives within us. That choice is available to you right now.
What does it look like practically for you to be filled with the Holy Spirit today rather than being controlled by your own impulses or the pressures of the world around you?
Begin each morning this week with a simple prayer of surrender, asking the Holy Spirit to lead your thoughts, words, and decisions throughout the day. At the end of each day, reflect on where you noticed His leading and where you did not.

“Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ” I feel like this verse if often misconstrued into something it doesn’t mean, but rather it should be a clear picture. We, if submitting to the Lord, should be willing to have conversations of accountability and trust. If we’re first submitting to Christ, then to one another, we will be much stronger. It’s not about control, it’s about being Spirit-led.
