Day 3: Separated for a Purpose

Reading: John 15:18-21

The World Hates the Disciples

18 “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. 20 Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’[a] If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. 21 They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me.

2 Corinthians 6:14-18

Warning Against Idolatry

14 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 15 What harmony is there between Christ and Belial[a]? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said:
“I will live with them
    and walk among them,
and I will be their God,
and they will be my people.”[b]
 17 Therefore,
“Come out from them
    and be separate,
says the Lord.
Touch no unclean thing,
    and I will receive you.”[c]
 18 And,
“I will be a Father to you,
and you will be my sons and daughters,
says the Lord Almighty.”[d]

Devotional:
Jesus called us out of the world, not to isolate us, but to set us apart for His mission. When you feel like the world is against you, remember—it is. But not because you're doing something wrong; because you're doing something right. The world system that operates apart from God will always oppose those walking in step with the Spirit. This isn't cause for fear but for faith. You've been chosen, separated, and commissioned. The world would love you if you belonged to it, but you belong to Christ. This separation isn't about superiority but about identity. You are His, marked by His love, filled with His Spirit, and sent with His message.

In what ways are you compromising your identity in Christ to gain approval from the world?
