Sermon Preview: “Obey”
Scripture: Ephesians 5:21; Ephesians 6:1–9

This Sunday we will continue in Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, looking at what it means for the church to “submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.” Submission is often misunderstood as domination or control, but Paul gives us a different picture: yielding to God and lifting others up in love.

We will look at two examples Paul gives:
- Children and parents — what it means to obey, honor, train, and nurture in a way that reflects Christ.
- Servants and masters — how our work, authority, and relationships should be shaped by sincere service to the Lord.

The heart of the message is about obedience, trust, and mutual submission. In a culture that often resists authority and struggles to trust, God calls His people to learn a different way: yielding first to the Holy Spirit, then learning to honor and serve one another in healthy, Christ-centered relationships.

Key Themes
- Obedience to God is good and necessary.
- Children are called to honor and obey their parents.
- Parents are called to train, nurture, and not provoke their children.
- Workers should serve sincerely as serving Christ.
- Leaders and employers should not dominate, threaten, or manipulate, but help others thrive.
- A healthy church is made up of people who yield to Jesus and build one another up.

Questions
1. What does it mean to “submit to one another” in a healthy, biblical way?
2. Why is obedience difficult for us sometimes?
3. How can children honor their parents beyond simply “following the rules”?
4. How can parents discipline and train their children in a way that points them to Jesus?
5. What would change if we treated our work, school, chores, or responsibilities as service to the Lord?
6. How can we better lift others up in our home and church?

Prepare Your Heart
Before Sunday, take a few minutes to read Ephesians 6:1–9. Ask the Lord to reveal any area where you may need to surrender control, grow in obedience, or learn to honor others more fully.

We look forward to worshiping together as we learn what it means to be a healthy body of Christ, submitting to Jesus and serving one another in love.
