Day 4: Rooted in Love
Reading: Ephesians 3:14-19
Paul’s Prayer for Spiritual Growth
14 When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father,[a] 15 the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth.[b] 16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Romans 8:38-39
38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Devotional:
Paul did not pray for the Ephesians to have more knowledge or more comfort. He prayed that they would be rooted in love. Everything else flows from there. Romans 8:38-39 declares that nothing in all creation has the power to separate us from the love of God found in Christ Jesus. When your roots go down into that love, circumstances lose their power to define you. Suffering cannot uproot you. Failure cannot disqualify you. Doubt cannot drive you out. Today, stop and ask yourself honestly: Is my life rooted in God's love, or is it rooted in my own performance and understanding?
