Day 3: Always Ready

Reading: 1 Peter 3:15-16

15 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 16 keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.

Reading: Acts 8:30-35

30 Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked.

31 “How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.

32 This is the passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading:
“He was led like a sheep to the slaughter,
and as a lamb before its shearer is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
33 In his humiliation he was deprived of justice.
Who can speak of his descendants?

For his life was taken from the earth.”[a]
34 The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?” 35 Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.

Footnotes
[a] Acts 8:33 Isaiah 53:7,8 (see Septuagint)

Devotional:
Philip heard the Ethiopian reading Isaiah and seized the moment. He didn't hesitate or make excuses about not being prepared. Starting with Scripture, Philip shared the good news about Jesus.
Being ready to share Jesus doesn't mean having all the answers or perfect theology. It means knowing Jesus personally and being willing to tell others about Him. Philip simply explained how Isaiah's prophecy pointed to Jesus—His death, resurrection, and offer of salvation.
Who in your life is reading, searching, or asking questions about spiritual things? God may be positioning you to be their Philip. You don't need seminary training; you need availability. Pray for sensitivity to recognize these moments. Study Scripture so you can point others to Jesus. Practice sharing your own story of how Jesus changed your life. The Holy Spirit will give you words when you need them. Stay ready, stay available, and watch how God uses ordinary conversations for eternal purposes.
