Day 4: Purchased, Forgiven, and Guaranteed
Reading: Ephesians 1:7-14
7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, 9 he[a] made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.
11 In him we were also chosen,[b] having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, 12 in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. 13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

Devotional:
The word guarantee carries weight in a world full of broken promises. Paul uses it deliberately. The Holy Spirit living inside every believer is God's own guarantee that the inheritance he promised will be fully delivered. This is not wishful thinking. It is the living God taking up residence in you as a seal of his commitment. You may carry doubts. You may wrestle with skepticism about whether any of this is truly real. That struggle is honest and God is not afraid of it. But at some point, faith must choose to act. The Spirit in you is the evidence that God has already acted first. Trust the guarantee.

I love verses 13 & 14 - when we accept the gift of salvation, the Holy Spirit is our deposit or down payment on our guarantee of eternal inheritance!
God wants a relationship with us. We are chosen by Him! Not just for one day, but He chooses us every day, for eternity! He’s not going anywhere as His Spirit has taken up residency in my heart. Hallelujah! Since a relationship is a two way street, may I faithfully choose Him every moment of every day as we walk this journey together. What a blessed joy to experience His presence! To God be the glory!!
I like how the devotional ends with “the Spirit in you is evidence that God already acted first”. What a truth this is. I met with a group of people last night and we just talked about this exact thing. What if we were all so in tune with God that the Spirit became evidence of our relationship with him?

nThis sticks out to me most. God works EVERYTHING out according to the plan He already has. Even the bad stuff. That’s globally and personally. We can’t ruin his plans.
