Sermon Preview: “Walk Worthy”
This Sunday, we’ll continue in Ephesians 4–5, where Paul gives the church a strong and loving call: “Live no longer as the Gentiles do.” In other words, God’s people are called to live differently from the world around them.
Paul reminds believers that following Jesus is not just a religious label or a set of good behaviors. It is a daily choice to walk in step with Jesus, to be led by the Holy Spirit, and to turn away from the old sinful ways that once shaped our lives.
We’ll talk about what it means to “walk worthy” of our calling as God’s holy people and how the Holy Spirit transforms our thoughts, attitudes, words, relationships, and desires. This passage addresses real-life issues like anger, dishonesty, bitterness, sexual immorality, greed, foolish talk, and drunkenness—but the goal is not mere behavior modification. The goal is a transformed life that reflects Jesus.
Main Scripture
Ephesians 4:17–5:20
Big Idea
Because we belong to Jesus, we are called to stop living like the world and choose, every day, to walk in step with Him by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Families Can Prepare By Reading
- Ephesians 4:17–32
- Ephesians 5:1–20
- 1 John 1:5–9
Questions to Discuss Before Sunday
1. What does it mean to “walk in step with Jesus”?
2. Why is it not enough to simply look like a “good Christian” on the outside?
3. Are there areas of life where we are tempted to excuse sin instead of surrendering it to Jesus?
4. How does the Holy Spirit help us live differently?
5. What does it mean to live as “people of light”?
Key Reminder
We do not change ourselves by willpower alone. Jesus invites us to walk with Him, and when we stumble, He calls us back with grace. The question before us is simple but deeply important: Will we choose Jesus today?
