Day 1: One Body, Many Stones

Reading: Ephesians 4:1-6
Unity in the Body
4 Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. 2 Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. 3 Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. 4 For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future.
5 There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6 one God and Father of all,
who is over all, in all, and living through all.

Devotional:
The church is not a building. It is a living structure made of people, each one shaped and placed by God with intention. Paul reminds us that there is one Spirit, one Lord, one faith binding us together. Yet within that unity, each person brings something distinct. You are not interchangeable with anyone else in God's design. Your presence in the church matters. Your absence leaves a gap. Before you can understand your individual role, you must first settle into the truth that you belong to something larger than yourself. Rest today in the reality that you have been called and included.
In what ways do you actively contribute to the unity of your local church community?
Reach out to one person in your church this week simply to encourage them and affirm their value to the body.

I think this goes so well with the conversation we had last night at The Greenhouse. However, I do also appreciate what the devotional says that we must first settle into the truth that we belong to something greater than ourselves before we understand our role in the church. I feel like this is where we mess it up so much. We’re too busy thinking about what makes us feel good or what frustrates us that we loose sight of the bigger picture, and in return loose sight of what God wants to do with us.
