Day 2: Growing in the Knowledge of God

Reading: Ephesians 1:17

 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit[a] of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

 Footnotes

[a] Ephesians 1:17 Or a spirit

Reading: Psalm 46:10

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth.”

Devotional:
 Paul did not pray that the Ephesian church would simply know more facts about God. He prayed they would grow in the knowledge of God himself, a personal, living, relational knowledge. If you do not know who God is, you will go through life not fully knowing who you are, because you are made in his image. Growing in that knowledge requires intentionality. It requires paying attention. God is not hiding from you. He is revealing himself through his Word, through prayer, through community, and through the circumstances of your daily life. Are you looking? Are you listening?

In what areas of your life have you been too distracted to notice what God is revealing about himself?

Set aside fifteen minutes today in silence before God. No agenda. Simply ask him to reveal himself to you and remain attentive.

If I’m being honest, sometimes I get too busy “doing” to hear what God is trying to say to me. I’ve lately felt I know that I am here locally for a reason but can’t pinpoint why. It’s time for me to slow just enough to hear what God is trying to tell me.

I’m just thinking that I really want to know God better.
