Day 1: Knowing Who You Are in Christ
Reading: Ephesians 1:15-18
Thanksgiving and Prayer
15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, 16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit[a] of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,

Devotional:
Paul prayed that believers would be flooded with light so they could understand their true identity. It is easy to move through life constructing an image of yourself built on accomplishments, failures, or the opinions of others. But God, the creator of the universe, has already spoken over you. You are his holy people, set apart for his plan and his purpose. This identity is not earned. It is declared.
Ask God today to flood your heart with light so that you can see yourself the way he sees you, clearly and without distortion.
What false images of yourself have you constructed that need to be surrendered to God's truth?
Write down one identity statement God speaks over you in Scripture and return to it every time a competing voice tries to define you differently.

I wish life didn’t have any distortions. It’s easy to get caught up in them and not see what God is trying to speak to you. I myself struggle with it, a lot if I’m honest. But today my statement is that I am enough and God has me where he wants me to be.
I love that knowing God better is something he gives us, not something we work for. We should “ask God to give us the spirit of wisdom and revelation so that we may know him better.”

nKinda nice that all the work is on Him. We just have to ask and be willing.
My identity statement: “I am chosen by God.”

nMy history and self perception say I’m not worthy, I’m not smart enough, I don’t have enough social grace or talent— but over the noise of that, Gods voice has been clearly saying “I chose you,” the last couple difficult months.
