The Power of God's Name

5-Day Devotional: The Surrendered Life

Day 1: The Power of God's Name

Reading: Exodus 3:13-15; John 18:1-6

Devotional: When Jesus revealed His identity in the garden saying "I am," Roman soldiers and temple guards fell to the ground. This wasn't mere coincidence—it was the power of God's name manifesting in human history. The same "I AM" who spoke to Moses from the burning bush now stood before armed men who crumbled at His words.

In your life today, remember that no force—no anxiety, no opposition, no circumstance—can stand against the power of Jesus' name. When you feel outnumbered or overwhelmed, speak His name. The One who made soldiers fall with a word is the same One who walks with you today. His power hasn't diminished. Nothing in your life catches Him by surprise, and His presence is more than sufficient for whatever you face.

Such a great reminder of the power of God’s presence and the “power” of our words. Lord, help me to call upon You in the face of adversary, please. Help me not to crumble, but to actively seek you in the moment EVERY TIME. Please, help all of us to always remember You and the power You offer us if we would just call on You. ? In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Thank you for this devotional. What a great reminder of the power of God in all circumstances. I love thinking that “Nothing surprises God about my life” and he still loves and uses me for his glory.

nThe name of Jesus reminds me that we are never without his authority, never without hope, and never alone.
