The Great Commission
This powerful message takes us on a journey through the Great Commission as recorded in all four Gospels, revealing layers of meaning we might have missed by reading just one account. We discover that being a disciple isn't about inheriting faith or being forced into it—it's a personal choice to become a student of Jesus, learning to be like Him. The transition from disciple to apostle marks a pivotal moment: we don't stop learning from Jesus when we start teaching others about Him. Instead, we become both students and sent ones, simultaneously following Jesus while leading others to Him. The most challenging truth presented is that Jesus didn't stay to physically lead this mission—He ascended to heaven and sent the Holy Spirit instead. This means we must redefine what it means to follow Jesus when He's not physically present. The disciples had to wait in Jerusalem, filled with excitement and understanding, yet commanded to pause until the Holy Spirit came. This waiting wasn't passive; it was worshipful preparation. For us today, the Great Commission isn't a side project or hobby—it's meant to be our life mission. Our professional work becomes secondary to the primary calling of making disciples. This requires a complete mindset shift, asking ourselves honestly: what excites us most, and what terrifies us about this calling? Are we making discipleship our life mission, or have we relegated it to something we do occasionally?
