Flighty People
This powerful Palm Sunday reflection challenges us to examine the authenticity of our devotion to Christ by exploring a sobering reality: the same crowds who shouted 'Hosanna' and waved palm branches on Sunday were crying 'Crucify Him' just days later. Through Matthew 25's parable of the sheep and goats, we're confronted with an uncomfortable truth—both groups call Jesus 'Lord,' both believe they're serving Him, yet only one truly belongs to Him. The message pierces through our comfortable Christianity to ask: Are we sheep who surrender to our Shepherd's leading, or goats who do our own thing while claiming to follow Jesus? We discover that genuine faith isn't about checking boxes on a spiritual to-do list or performing religious duties when convenient. Instead, it's about complete surrender—allowing Jesus to be both Savior AND Lord. The sermon exposes our tendency to be 'flighty' followers who love Jesus on Sunday but deny Him through our lifestyle Monday through Saturday. We want a Messiah who saves us without requiring us to surrender our way of doing life. Yet true discipleship means giving up our way entirely, trusting the Good Shepherd to lead us into sacrificial love that brings healing and purpose to our broken world. This isn't about religious performance; it's about transformation through genuine relationship with Christ.
