Walk Worthy

What does it actually mean to follow Jesus? Not as a religious label, not as a set of principles we admire from a distance, but as an active, daily choice to walk in step with a living person? Ephesians 4 and 5 confront us with exactly that question, and the answer is more demanding and more freeing than we might expect. Paul writes with unmistakable urgency, reminding us that we were once people of darkness, confused and hardened, living for our own pleasures with no sense of shame. But that is no longer who we are. We have been made new, and that newness is meant to show. The passage calls us to throw off the old life the way you would strip off a filthy, ruined shirt and never put it back on. Lies, anger, theft, corrupt language, bitterness, sexual immorality, greed, these are not small quirks to manage. They are markers of a life still oriented away from God. And yet the power to change is not found in trying harder. It is found in choosing, moment by moment, to be led by the Holy Spirit. This is not behavior modification. This is transformation from the inside out. The question the passage leaves us with is simple and unavoidable: who is actually leading our lives right now?
