This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. 16 I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.”

17 Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” 18 Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, 19 and after taking some food, he regained his strength.

Saul in Damascus and Jerusalem

Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus.

Devotional:
Imagine Ananias's fear when God asked him to minister to his greatest enemy. Yet he obeyed, greeting Saul as "brother" before any evidence of change appeared. Faith often requires us to act before we feel comfortable. God may be calling you to show love to someone who opposes you, to forgive someone who hurt you, or to serve someone you'd rather avoid. Ananias trusted God's word over his own fear. His obedience became the bridge for Saul's healing and filling with the Holy Spirit. Who is God asking you to reach out to today? Trust precedes comfort, and obedience opens doors for miracles.

Amen.

Devotional:
Paul later called himself the worst of sinners, yet God showed him mercy. This wasn't just for Paul's sake, but as an example that no one is beyond God's reach. Who in your life seems too far gone? Too opposed to God? Too toxic to pray for? God's mission is bigger than our categories of "us" and "them." Jesus didn't wait for Saul to come seeking; He pursued His enemy with blinding light and transforming love. Today, make a list of people you've written off as unreachable. Begin praying for their salvation, trusting that the same God who saved Saul can reach anyone.

He went to the high priest 2 and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. 3 As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”

5 “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.

“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. 6 “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

7 The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone. 8 Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus. 9 For three days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything.

Devotional:
Saul was so devoted to what he thought was right that he couldn't see the truth. Sometimes our religious zeal, our certainty about how things should be, can actually blind us to what God is doing. Like Saul, we can follow rules perfectly while missing God's heart entirely. God had to physically blind Saul to help him see spiritually. What areas of your life might you be so certain about that you've stopped listening for God's voice? Ask God today to reveal where you might be following the letter of the law but missing His Spirit. True sight begins when we acknowledge we might be blind.

Philip's story didn't end with one divine appointment. After baptizing the Ethiopian, he continued preaching town by town until reaching Caesarea. One obedient step led to another, creating a journey of faithfulness.
God's work in your life is ongoing. Yesterday's obedience prepares you for today's assignment. The Ethiopian went home rejoicing, carrying the gospel to Africa. Philip continued northward, impacting countless lives. Both moved forward changed by their encounter.
Your spiritual journey isn't about one dramatic moment—it's about consistent, Spirit-led faithfulness. God is writing a story through your life, one chapter at a time. You may not see the full impact of your obedience, but God is working. That conversation you had, that act of kindness, that moment you shared Jesus—God is multiplying your faithfulness in ways you'll never fully know this side of heaven. Trust that He who began a good work in you will carry it to completion. Keep walking, keep obeying, keep sharing Jesus wherever He leads.

What can stand in the way of my being baptized?" The Ethiopian's enthusiasm is contagious. He didn't want to wait—he wanted to publicly identify with Jesus immediately. Philip didn't create barriers or require lengthy preparation. When faith was present, baptism followed.
There's beautiful simplicity in this moment. No committee meetings, no elaborate ceremonies—just water, faith, and obedience. The Ethiopian emerged from the water a changed man, and Philip was instantly transported to his next assignment.
What is God asking you to do immediately? Perhaps it's not baptism, but another step of obedience you've been postponing. Maybe it's reconciling a relationship, starting a spiritual discipline, or stepping into service. We often overcomplicate obedience, creating barriers God never intended. The Ethiopian's joy came through immediate response. Don't wait for perfect circumstances. When God speaks, act. Your obedience today positions you for God's next assignment tomorrow.

Peter's response was direct: "Repent." Repentance isn't just feeling sorry—it's turning around and walking the other way. It's recognizing our sin, confessing it honestly, and choosing transformation. David's prayer in Psalm 51 is the heart cry of genuine repentance: "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me." We all have Simon moments—times when our motives are selfish, when we want God's blessings without surrendering to His lordship. But God's grace meets us in repentance. He doesn't just forgive; He renews. What area of your life needs a turnaround today? Bring it honestly before God, ask for His cleansing, and trust that He makes all things new.

His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, 16 and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. 17 He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. 18 For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.

19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. 21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.

Devotional:
The Jews and Samaritans despised each other for generations. Prejudice ran deep. Yet God sent Peter and John—leaders of the Jerusalem church—to validate the Samaritan believers by laying hands on them. The message was clear: "These are My children too." God was demolishing walls of division. The Holy Spirit doesn't discriminate based on ethnicity, social status, or past mistakes. Where we see barriers, God sees opportunities for reconciliation. Who have you been taught to avoid or look down upon? What prejudices need to be confronted in your heart? God may be calling you to reach the very people you've been conditioned to ignore. True revival happens when we recognize that everyone—regardless of background—is equally loved and equally invited into God's family.

He boasted that he was someone great, 10 and all the people, both high and low, gave him their attention and exclaimed, “This man is rightly called the Great Power of God.” 11 They followed him because he had amazed them for a long time with his sorcery. 12 But when they believed Philip as he proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. 13 Simon himself believed and was baptized. And he followed Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles he saw.

Devotional:
Simon the Sorcerer was famous, respected, even feared—but his power was counterfeit. It impressed people but led them away from God and toward himself. Authentic spiritual power always points to Jesus, never to the vessel. We live in a world full of spiritual counterfeits—things that look appealing but leave us empty, like wax fruit that disappoints when bitten. The test is simple: Does it lead you closer to God or further away? Does it glorify Jesus or elevate self? When we don't know God's Word, we become vulnerable to deception. Commit to becoming a person of the Book. Let Scripture be your filter for discerning truth from counterfeit. Real power isn't about control or personal gain—it's about humble service that magnifies Christ alone.

It was about noon.

7 When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” 8 (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)

9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.[a])

10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”

11 “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”

13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”

16 He told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.”

17 “I have no husband,” she replied.
Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband. 18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.”

19 “Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet. 20 Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”

21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

25 The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”

26 Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”

The Disciples Rejoin Jesus

27 Just then his disciples returned and were surprised to find him talking with a woman. But no one asked, “What do you want?” or “Why are you talking with her?”

28 Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, 29 “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?” 30 They came out of the town and made their way toward him.

31 Meanwhile his disciples urged him, “Rabbi, eat something.”

32 But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.”

33 Then his disciples said to each other, “Could someone have brought him food?”

34 “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. 35 Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. 36 Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. 37 Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true. 38 I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.”

Many Samaritans Believe

39 Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. 41 And because of his words many more became believers.

42 They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”

Footnotes
1. John 4:9 Or do not use dishes Samaritans have used

Devotional:
The Samaritan woman at the well had a complicated past and a questionable reputation, yet she became the first evangelist to her entire town. Her qualification? A genuine encounter with Jesus. She simply said, "He told me everything about myself, and He loves me." That's the power of testimony—not theological perfection, but authentic transformation. You don't need seminary training to share what Jesus has done in your life. Your story—with all its mess and miracle—is uniquely yours to tell. Someone needs to hear how Jesus met you in your brokenness and made you whole. This week, identify one person you feel comfortable with and practice sharing your story. Don't underestimate the power of simply saying, "This is what Jesus did for me."

Waiting isn't passive resignation; it's active trust. The psalmist cries from the depths yet anchors his soul in God's unfailing character. Sometimes our life mission includes seasons of waiting—waiting for doors to open, for relationships to heal, for clarity about next steps. In these waiting seasons, we're not idle. We're learning to rely completely on God's word rather than our circumstances. We're being refined and prepared for what's ahead. Your waiting is not wasted when you're waiting on the Lord. He's building endurance, deepening trust, and preparing you to be used powerfully when the season shifts.

From the depths of despair, we cry out to God—and He hears. The psalmist understood what Stephen discovered: even in the darkest valley, God's presence sustains us. With the Lord, there is unfailing love and full redemption. No persecution, no trial, no opposition can separate us from the love of Christ. The church has faced 2,000 years of martyrdom, yet it continues to grow. Why? Because our hope isn't in favorable circumstances but in the unfailing character of God. When you wait for the Lord, you're not passively sitting idle—you're actively trusting that He is working, even when you cannot see it. Your soul will be satisfied not when problems disappear, but when you encounter the presence of God in the midst of them.

What depths are you experiencing today, and how can you actively place your hope in God's unfailing love?

And now you have betrayed and murdered him— 53 you who have received the law that was given through angels but have not obeyed it.”

The Stoning of Stephen

54 When the members of the Sanhedrin heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him. 55 But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56 “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”

57 At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, 58 dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile, the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul.

59 While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.

Romans 8:12-17

12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.

14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[a] And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

Devotional:
Stephen's face glowed with the presence of God even as stones were being hurled at him. How? He was full of the Holy Spirit. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you. Yet how often do we resist the Holy Spirit, trying to do God's work without God? We cannot produce spiritual fruit through human effort. Heart change—genuine transformation—only comes as we surrender to the Spirit's leading. Stephen didn't defend himself because he was too busy being led by God. His mission wasn't self-preservation but God-glorification. When we're filled with the Spirit, we have wisdom beyond our own, courage beyond our nature, and peace beyond our circumstances.

Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? 29 For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, 30 saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’
31 “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. 33 In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.

Acts 6:8-15

Stephen Seized

8 Now Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed great wonders and signs among the people. 9 Opposition arose, however, from members of the Synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called)—Jews of Cyrene and Alexandria as well as the provinces of Cilicia and Asia—who began to argue with Stephen. 10 But they could not stand up against the wisdom the Spirit gave him as he spoke.
11 Then they secretly persuaded some men to say, “We have heard Stephen speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God.”
12 So they stirred up the people and the elders and the teachers of the law. They seized Stephen and brought him before the Sanhedrin. 13 They produced false witnesses, who testified, “This fellow never stops speaking against this holy place and against the law. 14 For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and change the customs Moses handed down to us.”
15 All who were sitting in the Sanhedrin looked intently at Stephen, and they saw that his face was like the face of an angel.

Devotional:
Stephen understood something many of us struggle to grasp: following Jesus costs everything, yet it's worth it all. He didn't back down when falsely accused. He didn't compromise when facing death. He recognized his life mission was bigger than his comfort or safety. In America, we often want Christianity without sacrifice, discipleship without discomfort. But Jesus never promised an easy path—He promised His presence on a costly one. You cannot sit on the fence, holding onto both the world and Jesus. True discipleship requires us to get off the fence and walk fully toward Christ, leaving behind whatever competes for His rightful place in our hearts.

What is keeping you on the fence between wholehearted devotion to Jesus and holding onto the world?

This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. 47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”

Ephesians 6:10-18

The Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

Devotional:
We often fight battles that were never ours to carry. Like the early believers who couldn't stop talking about Jesus despite threats, we're called to be "a garden in Manhattan"—bringing life where it seems impossible. Your mission field isn't necessarily across the ocean; it's often right where you are. God has uniquely equipped you with experiences, gifts, and a story that can reach people others cannot.

Today, ask: Lord, what is my mission? The Christian life was never meant to be lived in isolation. The early church thrived because believers gathered daily, shared resources sacrificially, and genuinely cared for one another. When we try to serve God alone, we become overwhelmed and ineffective. But when we embrace biblical community—supporting, encouraging, and strengthening one another—we can accomplish far more than we ever could individually. Whether caring for church members or supporting foster families, we multiply our impact through partnership. The body of Christ functions best when every member contributes their unique gifts. Don't underestimate the power of bringing a meal, offering childcare, or simply showing up. Small acts of service, done consistently, transform lives.
